CAMP REDWOOD

Inspired by the legacy of WPA-built lodges found throughout America’s national parks, this family compound set within a northern California redwood grove was created with the utmost sensitivity to the environment. The architects worked with the site’s topography, natural materials, and native vegetation to craft a restrained and subtle landscape design that is powerful in its simplicity.

Camp Redwood speaks to an earlier time in a fresh way. Its contemporary take on rustic style permeates the project, from the two wood cabins outward to a series of gathering places defined by stone retaining walls, a bluestone patio with a contemporary Cor-ten firepit, and a hot tub accessed by stone stairs and softened by naturalistic vegetation with an edge-of-the-forest feel. Winding pathways of decomposed granite lead into a landscape where vegetable picking in the garden, hot tubbing under the stars, marshmallow roasting around the campfire, and journeys of discovery into the forest foster a deep and lasting connection to nature and family.
