What is your favorite part of working in landscape architecture?
My favorite part of landscape architecture is the myriads of subjects we get to touch and become knowledgeable about. I am constantly learning and finding new things to become familiar with.

What have you learned from your career in landscape architecture?
Something I have learned is the importance of refinement of a design. I think instinctually designers tend toward proffering more things to a design and this becomes overcomplicated or overprogrammed quickly. Having an eye for refinement comes with experience and is difficult to master. Simplicity is very hard to achieve.

What motivates you?
Developing ideas with others. Collaboration is incredible when ideas come together and create something wonderful.

What's something you're excited to be working on?
A new project in Hillsborough. The site has one of, if not the best views of the bay and I am very excited to see how we can capitalize and integrate it into the landscape.

What is the best bike ride you've ever taken?
Favorite bike ride, hands down, is the three bridges ride. From Oakland ride over the Bay Bridge to Yerba Buena Island, take the ferry to Embarcadero, ride over the Golden Gate (if you are feeling especially fit ride up Hawk Hill), ride past Fort Baker into Sausalito, ride over the Richmond bridge, then back to Oakland. The ride is hard, rewarding, and you get to see a 360 view of the bay.
