Bay View
Perched above Richardson Bay, our clients understood that the potential of this property had yet to be realized. They saw that an existing Mediterranean-style with home and tight garden spaces could be transformed into a modern style that fully engaged with its panoramic location.
The house and landscape were stripped down to basics and re-envisioned to capture the simplicity of coastal materials and to take advantage of the treetop feeling above the bay.
The structures — composed of light-colored stucco, weathered-finish Kebony and dark metal elements — create a fresh interpretation of the architecture. The entry garden pulls in these materials with the addition of gray limestone to ground the buildings. Thin-profiled metal planters maximize planting area in the small-scale garden spaces, while extending the architectural accents & colors into the landscape. The back terrace is designed as a wrap-around garden over structure. Integrated planting around the building perimeter provides a softened foreground to the striking views of the San Francisco skyline across the bay.
