Agrarian Homestead

A dream of the farmhouse life inspired a design that is both timeless and contemporary. The creation of outdoor spaces for entertainment, relaxation and play celebrates the comfortable ease of living indoors and out.

Inspired by the patchwork of farmlands, viewed from a plane window, we designed the garden in rectangles of greens, blues and browns — punctuated with repeating rows of orchard trees and surrounded by native oaks.

The front of the house is open to the street and embraces the friendly neighborhood with wide porches and a welcoming path of native plantings, preserving native oaks. Kids play and neighbors stroll, stopping to visit.

A summer kitchen and a production garden present contemporary interpretation of what it means to live close to the land. The family grows food and the children help gather and harvest. Friends and neighbors are welcomed and entertained with dinners and story time around the warmth of fire. Play opportunities are everywhere, for both children and adults. This is living close to the land, honoring the site and enjoying time with family and friends.
